Maybelline Lifter Gloss in-depth Review and Swatches

Maybelline lifter gloss range
Last updated on August 13, 2024

After all the neutral matte lip looks of the last years, it was quite refreshing to see the lip glosses trend again. I was particularly happy as I will always be a “gloss girl”, even if it’s not a kissable or long lasting look. Doesn’t even matter if it’s high-end or drugstore, you can splurge or save on this makeup product, as the results are pretty much comparable. The lip glosses give you a fresh appearance, make your lips more full and pouty and provide luminosity to the face as they catch light. Some of them, like the one I am reviewing today have ingredients that are beneficial for the lips and count as lip care moisturizers.

maybelline lifter gloss moon and petal shades

When I purchased my first Lifter Gloss, the lip gloss trend was just starting to come back. My first one was the “Moon” 003 shade and until nowadays it’s still my favorite, although I have added the most popular and new to my collection that keeps on growing each year, meaning the product is a winner. Today there are 20 existing shades in the Maybelline Lifter Gloss range, with different opacity, finish and tone.

Find in the link here all my Lifter Gloss swatches, shade by shade, the most popular ones: PINTREST BOARD

Application

The product comes in a very nice tube that looks high-end, it’s well done, simple and sturdy with an XL wand applicator that disperses evenly the product. I like a lot the applicator as one swipe is enough to get the opacity the product provides. The lips feel immediately smooth and juicy with the help of the hyaluronic acid . It is recommended to start applying from the center of the lip and spread the gloss towards the corners.

Swatches

There are 3 types of opacity in the Lifter Gloss range, which leaves you to choose which one you prefer. Plus, there are shimmery or non-shimmery shades.

To give some examples, we have:

SHEER SHADES: Pearl, Sun, Ice, Opal, Brass, Sand, Bubblegum, Gummy bear, Peach Ring, Sweetheart, Taffy

The swatches will be shown  by collection, from the first one, that is the classic one until the launch of the newest, at the time this article is published.

Performance

You must know from the beginning that there are 3 types of opacity in the Lifter Gloss range: sheer, medium and full coverage. The last one I wouldn’t call it exactly full coverage as we are still talking about a gloss, but high opacity. The product is highly rated online, which you can tell also from the fact the brand is adding new shades constantly. The color payoff is good depending on which type of opacity you went for and the lips are plumped and feel moisturized for a good couple of hours. And then you need to reapply, but like with any other lip gloss. It doesn’t feel sticky, but quite light.

Pros

The Lifter Gloss range from Maybelline might be the best lip gloss you can find and at the drugstore. The popularity throughout the years didn’t make the brand raise prices as other ones did. The gloss is non-sticky, it hydrates the lips as it is enriched with hyaluronic acid and it is comfortable to wear.

Price point- it is amazing as it is a drugstore product with a high-end feel of both the liquid inside and as for the packaging . The tube feels heavy-in a good way- and it has a transparent part that gives you the possibility to see what shade is inside.

Cons

Not to many complaints about this one, but still there are a few issues that have to be mentioned.

First of all, most of the negative reviews come from the smell of the lip gloss, which is something very personal. Vanilla is involved . The smell doesn’t linger too much, maybe only a few minutes, so I don’t have a problem with that.

Second one- It was important for me as I purchased most of the shades online and you cannot tell the shade inside just by looking at the tube or at the pictures with a model trying it.

Last one. Some shades are quite similar which makes useless the necessity of putting out a different shade name for people to purchase. I found 003 Moon and 011 Brass quite similar and these one are actually my favorite.
