Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Review and Swatches

Last updated on April 2, 2024

Some say that once you have tried this foundation, you will never want to use something else instead. They were right. This high-end foundation lives up to it’s name “luminous silk perfect glow flawless foundation”.

You will notice that I am a high-end foundation addict. I am no snob by any means. I truly believe that there is more choice when it comes to shades and more information about the product than in the drugstore category. The companies invest more to inform the customer and also provide samples so that you can find your right shade and formulation.

It took me a very long time to finally try this foundation. I am not a person to jump on trends, I stand aside and I observe if the reviews are good for a long period of time and if they come from credible sources. I saw more and more makeup artists making this foundation part of their kits and most of the reviews were positive. I remind you I have a combination type of skin, my T-zone is extremely oily and the rest is either normal and in the winter even dry. I got matched to shade no.5 which is light, neutral, really a match made in heaven because it was very accurate for the winter time.

I really want to bring attention to the fact that beside the number of the foundation in the range, the shade and undertone are clearly stated online. Other brands- TAKE NOTES!!!. Not only, the foundation performs well and doesn’t oxidize or change the undertone in time in the bottle. NEUTRAL STAYS NEUTRAL.

Why is it an award-winning product? Because it delivers what it promises. It’s an oil-free liquid foundation with medium buildable coverage and a luminous glowing skin finish for a natural makeup look. It is a light weight foundation that helps to improve skin texture and blur imperfections. It is long-lasting.

Application

The foundation comes in a glass bottle with plastic pump, which makes it hygienic to use. On a prepped skin, according to one’s needs (for me mattifying primer/cream on the T-zone, normal moisturizer for the rest of the face plus SPF as last step), the foundation can be applied with a synthetic brush ( like Sigma F47 or Sigma F80) or a beauty sponge (I don’t prefer that method as a lot of product is lost). 2 pumps is enough for the face, neck and ears(don’t forget the ears and back of the neck also). As it is buildable, you can add more on the places that need more coverage, it will not look cakey.

Performance

After application, the foundation melted effortlessly into the skin with an overall silky slightly dewy texture that after a few hours sank into the skin. The first layer blended into the skin in an even way, making the face a canvas, not even exaggerating. It was not sticky and it blurred imperfections and DIDN’T EMPHASIZE MY PORES! THANK YOU!

The foundation is a hybrid one, uses silicone and oil, so silicone based products will go well together. It does NOT oxidize throughout the day and the contour/concealer/blush didn’t make my base separate and leaving patches. It worked well with other products and made them last without fading too much. As I powdered my T-zone, it held well for for 6-8 hours without looking too oily( I blot and powder with SPF during the day). The skin didn’t become cakey around the dry patches.

I have never encountered a foundation to be this level of goodness. It is great for both oily and dry skin (but make the skin prep accordingly) and it looks great in real life and pictures. Perfect for events, for that no makeup makeup look, not heavy, but still perfecting the skin to make you look your best. Really something to invest and to have in your kit.

Ingredients

Feel free and and also recommended to look for the meaning of the main ingredients on websites like Incidecoder.

They point out the Micro-Fil technology which provides a translucent radiance and flawless finish.

Aqua / Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Isododecane, Alcohol Denat., Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Acetylated Glycol Stearate, Magnesium Sulfate, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Trihydroxystearin, Cellulose Gum, Nylon-12, Limonene, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Isobutane, Diphenyl Dimethicone, Acrylonitrile/Methyl Methacrylate/Vinylidene Chloridecopolymer, Parfum / Fragrance, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Methylparaben, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Aluminum Hydroxide, Hexyl Cinnamal.

Pros

Everything. The best foundation I have ever used.

It is lightweight, but covers well without being cakey, it’s buildable, and doesn’t cling to dry patches.

The finish is natural silky smooth. It is long lasting and pairs well with silicone based makeup products (blush/contour/concealer/corrector).

It looks good in pictures which recommends it for events.

It does not oxidize on the skin or on the bottle.

The most important thing is the transparency when naming the shades with the description next to it, which made the process of buying online such an expensive foundation a success

Cons

The price. It is one of the most expensive high-end foundations, but there are others that are even more expensive, like crazy expensive.

Because for the last year it has been trending, there were times when it was sold out in the shade I needed, even on the brand’s page, but these periods of time were not so long, they were able to stand up to the demand.

The shades numbering is a little bit tricky, at least in my case. In the winter I am a 5-light, neutral and in the summer 4,5- light to medium, neutral. The logic would only say that darker shades go up in numbers, but it didn’t bother me, as it is explained very well on the pages where you can purchase the foundation.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. For me it was a success story. I am very happy about the performance of this foundation and I have it in my kit. It is a little pricey, but I only got good things out of it so it’s really worth it. Comment bellow with your shade and how it was for you.

  1. Your point about the clear labeling of shades and undertones online is so important – it’s a game-changer for those of us who struggle to find the perfect match. Can’t wait to try it out for myself!

  2. I am really intrigued and excited to try the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation! I’ve heard so many great reviews about its lightweight feel, silky finish, and ability to provide a natural, radiant glow.

  3. like you mention, prices on really good products can be sometimes more than we want to but most often worth it..thank you for your detailed review on this

  4. It’s been a while since I’ve worn any makeup. I found a good mouse foundation I like at Ulta and they discontinued it. I’m sad. I’ll have to give this brand a try next time I need to buy makeup.
